A dowry demand caused this bride from Kota to call off her wedding

A woman recently called off her wedding when the groom and his family demanded dowry of Rs 1 crore at the last minute. Hailing from Kota in Rajasthan, Rashi Saxena, daughter of Dr Anil Saxena, senior professor at Medical College, Kota, is a dentist.

She was set to marry Dr Saksham Madhok, who is an assistant professor at a medical college in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday evening. However, this last-minute demand, put forward on the wedding day, left the bride and her parents in complete shock.

According to The Indian Express, the bride’s father said,

At the time of the engagement on Saturday, the groom was given a car and five gold coins of 10 gm each but on the day of the wedding they sought more gifts, cash, and jewellery worth Rs 1 crore.

The bride’s family requested the groom and his family to return the earlier gifts in a ‘dignified’ manner. However, the groom’s family allegedly did not behave well, leaving the venue sulking.

While speaking with Hindustan Times, Anil further said,

Since guests, who were to attend the wedding ceremony, had arrived, the wedding feast was served. Once the guests finished dinner, we told them about the cancellation of the wedding.

The groom and his family did not attend the wedding feast.

When this demand was put before Rashi's parents, she spoke to the groom over the phone, but he was adamant about the dowry demand. Once she realised he would not change his mind, she decided to call off the wedding. The bride’s family has also filed a police complaint against the groom and his family.
