Nagaland to distribute solar power devices to promote renewable energy

The Department of New and Renewable Energy (NRE), Nagaland will soon be distributing solar power devices, which will benefit the people.

Schemes including solar power packs, which the department has taken up, would be very useful for farm houses where electricity was not available, said director NRE T S Angami, while talking to reporters in Kohima.

Another scheme which the department has taken up was the solar power pump where beneficiaries can pump water during day time and use the same device for domestic lighting at night, he said.

Accordign to PTI, in both the projects, 50 per cent of the cost has to be borne by the beneficiaries.

These projects would greatly benefit the public in the long run and would be implemented immediately after getting approval from the government, he said.

Angami said the department has commissioned solar power plants in all government directorates including the state Civil Secretariat and Assembly and would be embarking on their next projects to cover all districts.

“Very soon the department will commission air water generator where solar energy will be used for converting air into water,” he added.
