Villgro launches the Voices of Experience (VOX): a video resource repository for social enterprises

Villgro, one of India’s oldest social enterprise incubators, which to date has supported 94 enterprises, generated 3803 jobs and secured Rs. 200 million in follow-on funding for its portfolio companies, has launched an online video resource for social entrepreneurs called the VOX. They can be accessed here.

The videos are co-produced by Villgro and Niiti Consulting, with support from the International Development Research Centre (IDRC). The VOX video series is a part of a larger research project on the themes of talent infusion and social innovation that is scheduled to be published by Villgro in 2014.

Social enterprises and potential employees struggle with a lot of tough questions.

How do I find the right people for this tough job? Is it a profession or a life choice? How do we accelerate innovation? Understand social needs? How do I keep a close eye on several bottom lines at once? The VOX series tries to provide answers to these questions through the shared knowledge and practical experiences of experts in the field. These entrepreneurs, innovators, researchers, investors, incubators and employees offering contemporary insights on two of the subjects critical to social enterprise − talent strategy and social innovation.

We feature three videos to give you an idea about the VOX initiative.

The highlights of Rangan Varadan, Co-Founder of Microgram, an online microcredit platform talk includes about his inspiration to start his company, how to translate an idea to reality and how they adapted the Kiva model to the Indian context.

 

 

Among other things Bill Thies, Researcher at Technologies for Emerging Markets Group at Microsoft Research India, talks about how to identify social needs by going into the field and talking to the end user, working with partners and experts, ways in which technology is useful to scale or increase efficiency of an existing successful prototype.

 

 

Some of the insights from Satyarupa Shekhar, Research Lead at IFMR Center for Development Finance were the challenges she faces on her job, whether she feels that she’s adequately compensated and how her organization attracts talent.
