This retired army man works as a security guard by day and teaches slum children by night
Brijendra who retired from the army, is a security guard at the Allahabad Bank ATM in Majra, Dehradun, Uttarakhand. In the evening, children who are forced into labour and begging gather around him-to learn. He teaches around 24 children from the nearby slums under the light of the ATM. His classes also include the value of discipline.
Brijendra has been carrying out this philanthropic duty for the last 16 years. His effort is an inspiration to all the teachers involved in the literacy mission and primary schools, shares Narendra Singh Negi who also deserves a special mention.
Narendra is a renowned folk-singer from the Garhwal region in Uttarakhand. In a report by About Uttarakhand, Narendra has been invited to perform in all the major countries of the world. He has been the recipient of many awards.
Besides being a dedicated singer, Narendra also runs a strong community page on Facebook. Currently he has 149,290 people following him. He shares community news on his page and promotes sharing of positive news, such as the fantastic work being done by Brijendra.
