24 child labourers rescued in Rajasthan under Operation Muskaan

At least 24 child labourers working in various street-side stalls and restaurants, were rescued in Jawaharnagar police station area in Kota. Under Operation Muskaan, Anti Human Trafficking Unit and Child Line, an NGO, raids were conducted and 24 children were rescued, In-charge of Anti Human Trafficking Unit, Kaneez Fatima said.

All the rescued child labourers are in the age group of 12 to 16 years and hail from various districts of Rajasthan, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Nepal. They were working in various dhabas and restaurants in Jawaharnagar police station area in Kota , Fatima said. The children were forced to work in hazardous conditions from early morning till late night and were paid only Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,000 per month, Fatima said, adding that they had been working in these places for about two to three years.

The rescued children were produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) that ordered to send them to different shelter homes of the city, she said. Further action would be taken in a CWC meeting on July 29 and before that they would be taken for counseling, the official said. 146 children have been rescued and 33 missing children handed over to their parents so far in Kota city under the Operation Muskan since its launch on July 1.
